Dr. McGinn has been involved with the geotechnical design of excavation support systems for cut-and-cover and mined tunnels, underpinning systems, and shallow and deep foundations. His experience also includes design and implementation of subsurface exploration programs, including soil and rock laboratory testing programs, to establish in situ strength and deformation characteristics for geotechnical design. A.J. is a specialist in developing, executing, and interpreting numerical simulations for design complex geotechnical systems, most notably for the Boston Artery/Third Harbor Tunnel Project and the MWRA Effluent Outfall Tunnel, Boston, MA.

Dr. McGinn has completed a wide variety of projects, with primary emphasis on soil stabilization, tunnel, and excavation support design. Projects have included major infrastructure tunnels constructed via both cut-and-cover and mined methods in soil and rock. A.J. has been responsible for technical execution of project investigations and design. He has been responsible for project financial management, client communications and relationships, and business development. He has served as a guest lecturer at Cornell University in the areas of excavation support design, rock mechanics, shallow and deep foundation design, and advanced soil behavior.
